Your split time is an estimation of how much time it would take you to row 500 meters, if you maintained the exact same level of speed of your current stroke. Essentially, it functions as the most direct measure of how much work you are doing at any given time. The lower your split is, the harder your body is pushingーso in other words, the faster you are estimated to complete 500 meters.
The athletes on screen are nationally- or internationally-ranked and will often have lower splits than many Hydrow users because, simply put, they have more rowing experience and muscle mass than most casual rowers! It's similar to a running analogy: If you were to race a 500m sprint against an Olympic sprinter, you'd both take about the same number of steps and travel the same distance一however, the Olympian would probably finish in a faster time!
Here is a support article on How You Can Get a Better Workout While Rowing if you're looking for some tips on how to get your splits down (i.e. close the gap on the sprinter in front of you!) during your workouts on Hydrow.
