Yes! Hydrow has an Ethernet port that you can use to Hard-wire your internet connection for the most reliable streaming performance during workouts.
Where is the Ethernet port located?
You can find this on the back of Hydrow's monitor next to where the power and Hydrow cable plug in. See pictures below:
Will I see better performance than over Wi-fi?
Almost certainly, though if you already have good Wi-Fi performance, the benefit may be subtle. A physical connection allows more overall bandwidth than Wi-Fi and may resolve traffic issues when multiple people are trying to stream video, audio or play games on the home network at the same time. Ethernet also provides a more consistent connection which is less prone to interference from other equipment in your home, or other potential causes of network loss on Wi-Fi.
Do I need any particular type or spec of Ethernet cable to hook this up?
No. For traveling short distances between a router and Hydrow, any ethernet cable will do. Cat5E, cat 6, Cat7 etc. will all perform about the same in this application.
I've plugged in an Ethernet cable! How can I tell that it's working?
An active Ethernet connection, should automatically take priority over the Wi-Fi. However, If Hydrow has a saved Wi-Fi network, it may be hard to tell which connection you are using. To be sure Ethernet is being used, you may want to go to Settings > Wi-Fi and forget all of your saved networks. That way, any internet connection can only come through the Ethernet connection.
I'm plugged in by Ethernet but still stuck at the "Welcome Aboard" Wi-fi setup screen.
This most likely means that Hydrow can't reach the internet through the Ethernet cable you have connected. Some quick troubleshooting steps:
- Check that it is clicked-in firmly at both ends.
- Try moving to a different ethernet port on your router.
- Test with a different Ethernet cable.
- If there is an Ethernet Switch, hub, or wall outlet between Hydrow and the router, try bypassing it to plug directly into the router.
- If you have a working Ethernet cord connected to another device near-by (Computer, smart-TV, etc.) try plugging it into Hydrow to test.
