If you notice Hydrow's screen is waking up when you are not interacting with it, use the troubleshooting in this article.
There are normally only four things that could cause the screen to come on without user input. They are listed below in order of most to least likely:
- The Handle sensor triggering accidentally - Hydrow is meant to wake when the handle is pulled, but it is possible that something near-by is causing a false-positive for this. We have discovered that Hydrow is currently somewhat sensitive to bumps, vibrations, and sometimes even heavy footsteps near-by. Make sure Hydrow is on a mat to reduce vibrations from the environment (rubber is better than high density foam, but either is better than nothing). We are currently exploring some potential adjustments in our software to resolve this behavior.
- A loose Hydrow cable. Hydrow's screen will wake every time it loses and re-detects connection of the Hydrow cable, so an intermittent connection here is the most common cause of this symptom. This is one of the two cables that plugs in at the back of Hydrow's monitor. Labeled simply as "Hydrow" it will look similar to a 3.5mm Headphone jack connection when unplugged. To resolve, unplug this cable entirely and then reseat it firmly. Make sure there is no wiggle or give to the cable.
- Power loss & reboot. If Hydrow loses power even momentarily it will restart automatically and the screen will come on bright when this happens. Unplug and reseat the main power cable firmly at both Hydrow and the wall outlet. Also do the same to the power connection at the back of Hydrow's Monitor. Lastly make sure Hydrow isn't connected to any timers, green power strips, or smart plug devices (such as WeMo, TP link etc.)
- A false positive for something touching the screen. Anything within proximity of the black bezel around the screen could potentially be mistaken for a touch. Make sure there are no nearby plants or objects which might come in contact with the screen. We would also advise wiping the monitor surface thoroughly with a generic screen-cleaning solution and a lint-free cloth to remove any possible oil or contamination.
